Basic Photography Book Reveals What to Look For in a Digital Camera

StopShopping for an appropriate digital camera can be really confusing if you are not clear what you actually want, and you need to learn some basic photography terms in order to understand just what you need to be looking for. There are numerous types and styles of digital cameras available in the market today. To buy the best one, you should know what to look for in a digital camera. There are several models, manufacturers and price ranges which need to be sorted out well before picking the best model and manufacturer on the best rates. To simplify your search for a digital camera lets us take a look at things you should consider before buying a digital camera.

Number of Megapixels
This is an important aspect which you should consider while buying a digital camera. A number of megapixels determine the clarity and details of a captured photograph. There are several cameras which offer different range of megapixels. Today you can buy a range from 2 megapixels to 8 megapixel camera.

Now the next question arises that how many megapixels would you need. Well, if you are purchasing a digital camera to click photos and transfer them over the Internet, a 2 or 3 megapixel camera would be the best buy. On the other hand, if you want to take out large print out of your favorite photographs, you would need a 5 megapixel camera. And if you are a professional photographer and capturing details is essential for you, then a 7 or 8 megapixel camera would be a pick for you.

Optical Zoom and Digital Zoom

It is important for you to look for its range of optical zoom and digital zoom in a digital camera. When the lenses of the camera physically move to zoom on a subject, it is said to be optical zoom. On the other hand, if the image is magnified by the micro chip of the camera, it is said to be digital zoom. However, the quality of digitally zoomed image is not good. This is the reason that most manufacturers focus on specifying the optical zoom rather than digital zoom.

While buying a digital camera, you should take into account, whether you require large zoom range, medium zoom range or normal zoom range. It is advisable that you at least purchase a camera with 3x zoom capability.

Connectivity

When you look out for a digital camera, always verify its compatibility with the computers and the file system and the printer. After you click photographs, you might want to transfer it to your PC or send them directly for printing. For this purpose you should ensure that the manufacturers provide you with a cable to connect the camera to the USB port of your computer or printer. You can also look out for firewire for better and fast transmission of photographs.

Memory-Digital Film
You would certainly say that you know that flash memory is chosen for digital cameras. Yes you are right. But there are two things you should consider while choosing a flash memory. The first is the format and the second is the quality module. If you are looking to click a quick series of photographs with high resolutions, you should choose a memory which can record quickly and effectively.

Exposure Control
You should definitely examine the capability of camera to adjust to various shutter speeds and aperture speeds. It is essential that the camera has manual setting for these two aspects, so that the best image quality can be obtained. If you are a professional, you definitely need to have good options of shutter and aperture speed in a digital camera.

Handling and Usage

Last but not the least, choose a camera which is easy to use and handle as well. This means that the camera should be compact and the features and controls of the camera should be easily accessible to you.

If you consider these aspects while looking for a digital camera, you would surely land up buying the best camera for your needs and usage. Learn basic photography and you can book on finding exactly which digital camera will suit your needs.

Basic Land Photography Skills Tutorial

StopBuyers and collectors have accepted photography as art for some time, but only if it’s of significant artistic merit. Great landscape photography sells because the buyer is searching for escapism and the need to dream. As a species we have always been linked to and drawn to the landscape. Do you have a love for the countryside and a understanding of the landscape?

When you’re out in the great outdoors, away from the bustle, what do you see …

… sunlight filtering through trees and dancing on the landscape?

… snow on the mountains and a gushing river in full flow?

… coastal cliffs with the shimmering sea lapping onto the shore?

… a brooding sky casting a spell over the windswept moors?

… the warm glow of the sun setting at the close of day?

… or mists and changing patterns of wind, clouds and magical light?

Do you see the beauty and feel the connection?

To produce a great photo landscape you need to understand the countryside and how light affects it. You need to have a passion for the land and experience an intimate connection with nature. The best way of doing this is to explore an area on foot and become part of the landscape before taking any photos.

On your walk look for:

* Light (shadows and highlights)

* Shapes (round and angular)

* Color (harmony and discord)

* Texture (rough and smooth)

* Composition (strong and weak)

* Tones (light and dark)

* Patterns (even and odd)

* Mystery ( ? and ? )

So the next time you’re out with your camera looking for that open vista of rolling hills and mountains, also observe the intimate details in the landscape and maybe just photograph a small section of the bigger picture.

Your personality and your vision must come through in every photo you take; it’s up to you to capture the essence of the landscape in front of you. If your photograph works, the person viewing your image will feel they can step into your picture and experience the emotion of being there. A great landscape photograph is a great escape.

Basic Photography Course Introducing Stock Photography

StopStock photography is simply photos taken “on spec”. This means the photographer takes pictures of various objects, people, or situations, and sells them after the pictures have been taken. They are not on a specific photography assignment, instead they are taking photos of subjects they’d like to take pictures of.

Stock photography is primarily used in printed advertisements, brochures, magazines, and web sites, though there are many other ways stock photography can be used.

Stock photography is licensed in several different ways. The two most popular are Rights Managed Stock Photography, and Royalty Free Stock Photography.

Rights Managed photography is the use of stock photos that are licensed for a specific, limited time and purpose. If an advertiser for instance, needed a stock photo for one specific ad campaign, they could license a photo for that specific use. And they’d be limited to using the photo only for that campaign. They’d also be charged based on the size of the ad campaign they intended to use the stock photo for.

If they wanted to use the same photo again, they’d have to pay another fee. And that fee might be different, if the campaign use and sizes are different. These recurring fees are called royalties, and with rights managed stock photography they can be quite hefty. Ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars for the limited use of one photograph.

Royalty free stock photography allows you to pay a license fee once, then use the photo multiple times. There are usually limitations on this form of stock photography, however the restrictions are not nearly as narrow as rights managed photography is. A designer or advertiser could license one photo for instance, and use it in hundreds of different ad campaigns, without incurring additional fees. In other words: No royalty fees need to be paid.

Generally royalty free stock photography can be licensed for as little as $50 up to several hundred dollars depending on the licensing source and rights given.

One of the most popular forms of stock photography for small and web based businesses, is royalty free micro stock photography. This is a variation on the royalty free model, but it’s referred to as “micro stock” because designers and advertisers pay just a dollar or two per image license.

This type of stock photography has become quite popular with web site owners particularly, because it’s a very inexpensive way to get top quality photos for use on their web sites. Quality stock photos can be licensed for as little as $1 in smaller, web friendly sizes. And prices go up to about $3 or $5 for larger, print quality photo sizes.

Since these photos are royalty free, designers can use them multiple times for that one time low cost. Be sure to check the licensing restrictions though. Royalty free does not automatically mean “public domain” or “copyright free”, and each micro stock photography site has their own particular use restrictions on the photos you license.

Basic Photography – How To Add Special Effects To Photos With Adobe Photoshop And Basic Photography Tutorials

StopIn an effort to create a lasting impact from your photo, leaving the impressions on viewer’s minds, it should have something that keeps him glued. You can employ Adobe PhotoShop’s special effects tools in the menu to add a lightning effect. You can double your exposures or do whatever you choose. The advantage of owning Adobe Photoshop is the rewards it will bring. In fact, I used this program to design my book covers, make commercials, advertising slicks and more, so sit back and enjoy this basic photography course.

Lightning Effect: You can use various types of lightning effects and of different colors, applying them to an image using Adobe Photoshop. This will enhance your basic photography skills tremendously. Note that these tips are perfect for newbies as everything is explained in basic photography terms.

How to do it:-
We’ll follow a stepwise manner in doing this:
1.Open your editor or Adobe Photoshop program
2.Now open the desired image (make sure you open it in RGB format)
3.Now from the filter menu choose Renderer and then select your desired lighting effects.
4.You will see the lighting effect dialogue box opens up

1.Choose the desired lighting style from the topmost selection menu; you will notice the options style of lights. 2.Choose the light type and move the sliders to set the intensity and focus.
3.You can also change the properties by toggling the sliders for glass, material, exposure, and ambiance.
4.You can also change the color of light. To change the color of light just click on the boxes to the right of the light type and properties. This will open the color, picker dialogue box. Choose a color and press ok.
5.To change the direction or placement of light just drag any of the points on the outside ellipse or center point. Click ok after you have adjusted the direction and placement of light. How about that for a basic photography lesson!

Creating Double Exposure effect is one of the best basic photography tips: A double exposure image is created by overlaying two images on one another.

Like above we’ll again follow a stepwise procedure:
1.Select all or a part of the image using the selection tools at the top of the toolbar.
2.Now from the edit menu choose copy.
3.Now open a second image file.
4.From the window menu, you can select the show layer.
5.On the ‘show layer’ popup right click and choose new layer and press ok.
6.Now go to the edit menu and press paste.
7.From the layer’s palette, move the opacity slider to 50%.
8.Now drag the mouse from inside the selection to move it.
9.To scale the pasted selection, click on image menu and then select image size. Adjust the size by adjusting the pixels and height from the pop-up window.

The editing programs today can do wonders to images. One of the most popular programs is Adobe PhotoShop, since this editing program is one of the most sophisticated tools. Most pro photographers will use this program, since you can create web sites, book covers, images, movies, and more. Adobe is also used to design manuals, graphics, commercials, fliers, and more. This particular program I miss. I lost my copy during a severe virus attack, and the downside is it costs around $1000 to $1500 to replace.

Outside of lightning effects, you can also setup brick backgrounds, or whatever background you choose. If you own this program you know what I am talking about, however if you have never had the experience and can get the opportunity to try out Adobe I promise you will have loads of fun.  For additional editing assistance check out your menus, Help tools.
