Digital Macro Photography

Close up of Peacock Tail

Digital macro photography in itself is an art form. It takes an artist’s eye to take the everyday, little things and redefine them in a way that captivates the viewer. An artist can through skill and imagination, transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

One thing to understand about digital macro photography is that it is not easy. Many factors come into play in creating an amazing photograph. But what are these factors?

1) Skills – do you actually have the skills necessary for digital macro photography? Do you have the eye for beauty that would be appreciated by people who view your photographs? That’s not all you need. You also need to have a steady hand. While taking digital macro photographs, even barely noticeable movements of the hand can ruin your picture.

2) Equipment – you also need the proper tools in order to express your talent. The proper tools can help you a lot if you want to achieve the effect that you want. Remember that although there are tools today that claim to be usable for any type of photography, you should try to find equipment that’s specially made for digital macro photography. This is because such equipment can definitely bring out the best in your skills.

3) Subject – everything is interesting when viewed in different ways. However, some subjects are more interesting than others. Some objects, when you choose them as subjects of digital macro photography, manage to amaze you with the amount of things you do not know about them. Great subjects of digital macro photography reveal worlds beyond what you can see with the naked eye. So choose your subjects wisely.

Landscape Photography

cityscapeFocus is the key to taking a perfect landscape picture. The focal length should be as short as possible, to generate a greater depth of field. A greater feel of dimensionality can be achieved by having a subject, like an object in the foreground.

Use a slow shutter speed when photographing water will lend the impression of the water flowing. Add a polarizing filter to give a transparency effect to photographing the sea. A smart investment in photography is a tripod, particularly if you want to take panoramic photos.

Set the tripod in an area where you can pivot the camera effortlessly from left to right, and not up and down. Determine where you want your pictures to overlap, so that the resulting image does not have large gaps. Once you figure that out, you can swivel your camera in one way, clockwise or counterclockwise, to take the pictures you want.

After you’re finished, all you have to do is put them together with a simple graphics program or photo-editing software.

Digital Photography Made Easy

photographer
Digital photography is considered the most popular today, not only in the professional fields but also in personal use. When making the transition from film cameras can be confusing unless you know some of the terms associated with going digital.

Some of the basic parts and terms you need to know in regards to digital camera technology are as follows:

1. Pixel - The tiniest part of the digital photo.
A photo image is composed of millions of pixels combined.

2. Resolution – Represents the over all quantity of pixels in a photo.
Increasing the resolution will make the image become
sharper. Therefore more pixels are necessary to have
a better quality photo image.

3. Mega pixel – Photo composed of three to four mega pixels will have a
better quality that a photo with only one mega pixel.

4. Dots Per Inch – Term is used to describe the quality of the computer monitor
(DPI) and printer. Laser printers have more dpi resolution than
monitors, meaning the higher the dpi resolution the better
the quality.

5. JPEG joint – Correspond to the format for saving images in the digital
photographic camera.

Art or Science: The True Nature of Digital Photography

photographer
The question of what is the true nature of digital photography has been asked for years. What they often really mean to ask if digital photography is actually art or science.

Arguments for both sides can include:

Art – The ability to express emotion for many justifies digital photography to be an art form. The photography is simply another dimension the art of painting or drawing. The correlation between digital photography and painting exists because while the photograph is a actual image of reality, it can be modified through digital editing programs allowing for the transformation into the surreal if desired.

Even without the practice of editing, many people still feel that digital photography is a form of art in the fact that it requires an artist’s view to determine a great subject of digital photography. The nature of digital photography as an art lies in the belief that an artist can express emotions and messages through visual subjects.

Science – Some argue that science is the true nature of digital photography. The statement is that photography, unlike painting, actually comes from something real and not created as in the mind of a painter or their emotions. This is a persuasive argument since a photographer only takes the photo, not creates them.

Another argument supporting the scientific nature of digital photography is the editing people do and modifications that photographers occur from a series of steps that can be narrowed down scientifically. People who dispute in favor of the scientific nature of digital photography may have. The rationale is then formed that the same series of steps would be taken in order to achieve the same results each time, forming a constancy about digital photography making it a science.

Photographing Fireworks

FireworksLocation, Location, Location! This has never been more true than when taking digital photographs featuring fireworks. As in any other focus of digital photography, when shooting fireworks, composition is key. Before the display begins, find the angle that will offer you an unobstructed view of the upcoming fireworks. Having people in front of your camera cannot work under any circumstance and avoid it at all costs.

Streetlights will fade out and shadow the fire works without a doubt, therefore avoid streetlamps as best as possible. The vantage point from a boat can create beautiful results using the reflection from calm waters. Basically determining the best possible angle while keeping in mind the desire for less light, few people and accessibility, you too can achieve an ‘illuminating’ firework photo.

How to Get that Arial Shot

camera arialNo matter if heights are a frightening prospect or the astronomical costs of getting a plane are not in the budget, getting the perfect aerial shot is still within reach. There are tricks of the trade used by smart, economically savvy photographers. Although you probably would not have been able to tell, the secret is that many photos appearing to have been taken from mid-air are only fooling you. Using actual flying means is many times not practical or even available. A phobia of flying itself or the thought of having to work from the confines of a small area can be daunting.

It then becomes a matter of finding the right vantage point. Search your surroundings for a good prospect such as nearby hills or a high building within the area. Sea photos can be uniquely captured using the viewpoint from a lighthouse. Many times the same height you would get from a plane is reachable even with your feet still on the ground!

Buying a Digital Camera

cameraPricing yourself accordingly is the most logical tip in purchasing a digital camera. Doing your homework prior to beginning your online or camera store shopping is important. A digital camera can come with a wide variety of options to choose from. There are more than a few dozen brands of cameras available
alone, and you must take care not to get confused. Before investing in a large high-end SLR camera, consider the smaller, yet more powerful camera. High-end cameras will offer the best zoom, the most added features and increased megapixels.

Remember that more megapixels does not mean you are guaranteed great photo quality. For the beginner, it wouldn’t be practical to spend a large sum of
money on a high-end camera. A much more reasonable option would be to look for less expensive, smaller, yet functional, small digital camera. They are much easier to hold and to travel with. Take the time to learn the fundamentals of digital cameras and develop a love for photography before making a larger purchase.
