Shaky Hands?

It is not uncommon to shake our hands when we press the camera shutter. After all, we are not tripods or robots that can be hundred percent still especially when we are handling a camera. When you are doing a normal aim and shoot with autofocus, it is usually not a problem where light sources are sufficient. However, when you are trying to take a picture with low light intensity without a flash, it could cause some problems. Given this fact, we should not be discouraged to take night or indoor pictures when light sources are limited. Below are some pointers you can take note when dealing with shaky hands.

Firstly, you can switch to a wider lens aperture. This will allow more lights to come into the camera. Secondly, try to use a faster film or a higher ISO setting to reach faster shutter speeds. Thirdly, mount your camera onto a tripod. This obviously will eliminate camera shake. If you forget to bring along your tripod, look out for flat surfaces such as table tops, chairs or even dustbin top etc.. Place your camera on them. Fourthly, allow as much light as possible into the camera. If you take indoor pictures, turn on the room lights or open the curtains to have more natural lights. Finally, if you can afford, get an image-stabilizing lens which can reduce the effect of camera shake.

As technology progresses, cameras are built with internal devices to compensate the hand shake effects. Currently, there are two types of image stabilization lens. There are, lens or sensor-based stabilization.

For lens-based stabilization, it makes use of sensors, motors and groups of lens. When you press the shutter, the sensors in the lens will detect your hand movement. The movement will be converted into signals and drive the tiny motors to move the group lens to compensate any out of focus. These lenses tend to be a bit pricey. It is also a bit heavier due to the motors and they use more battery power.

For sensor-based stabilization, the motion sensors are put right in the camera body. The digital imager will moved itself to counteract any hand shake. The advantage is that, it is lighter in weight, less bulky and has lower power consumption.

Digital Photography Basics

Digital photography continues to become more and more popular for a variety of reasons. Among the many advantages of digital photography are the ability to see your photos quickly on your LCD screen and then on your computer, the ability to choose which photos to print without having to print or develop all of them, and the ability to easily make improvements with photo editing software. Here are some digital photography basics.

Digital photography is so easy that with minimal practice almost anyone can take great photos. After taking your photos, you simply plug your camera into your computer via a USB cord or a card reader. You see your photos almost instantly and can decide which ones you want to keep on your computer and which ones you want to delete. No waiting for development of film and then having to develop the entire roll to see which photos you like.

You can then save them to your hard drive, burn them to a CD or upload them to photo sharing sites to share with friends and family. Another great advantage of digital photography is that once you have your photos transferred from your card, you can wipe the card clean and use it over and over again without the expense of having to buy more film.

Don’t have a digital camera yet and need to know which one to buy? Begin your search by asking friends and family if they have a digital camera and if so, what features do they like or dislike about it. Make a note of the ones you think you might want. Then get online and look for camera review sites. Search for the cameras that your friends recommended and see what type of reviews that camera has. Look at the other brands that are rated highest also. Decide which camera seems to best meet your needs and is within your budget.

If you can’t afford the retail price, check places like Amazon to see if you can get a good price on a used camera. Also, don’t forget that you may be able to find a good price on eBay. Some eBay stores sell new cameras that will come with a warranty. When buying on eBay be sure to check the seller’s ratings to be sure they are reputable and to ask them any questions that you may have before bidding.

Some accessories that you may want to consider buying if you can afford to do so are a camera bag, an extra memory card, a backup battery and a tripod. However, these items are not required to start out and you can always buy them later as you can afford it.

Photography is a great hobby and you will be rewarded with the joy of capturing moments that you can keep forever. With the ease of use of digital cameras, it is a hobby almost any one can learn and enjoy.

How to Master Digital Photography

Make no mistake, digital photography is here, it’s big, and it’s the way things will be from now on. People use digital photography in their work every day:- police officers, real estate agents, insurance agents, fire fighters, scientists and doctors, just to name a few.

Digital photography has come a long way in a few years. Digital photography, as opposed to film photography, uses electronic devices to record and capture the image as binary data. Digital photography has also been adopted by many amateur snapshot photographers, who take advantage of the convenience of the form when sending images by email, placing them on the World Wide Web, or displaying them in digital picture frames.

Digital photography was used in astronomy long before its use by the general public and had almost completely displaced photographic plates by the early 1980s. Digital photography enables you to experiment with the camera settings, different styles of images can be tried out, learn t from and techniques improved all without the expense of film processing.

Some other devices, such as mobile phones, now include digital photography features. With the acceptable image quality and the other advantages of digital photography (particularly the time pressures of vital importance to daily newspapers) the majority of professional news photographers have begun capturing their images with digital cameras.

Other commercial photographers, and many amateurs, have enthusiastically embraced digital photography because they believe that its flexibility and lower long-term costs outweigh its initial price disadvantages. Almost all of the cost of digital photography is capital cost, meaning that the cost is for the equipment needed to store and copy the images, and once purchased requires virtually no further expense outlay.

The biggest advantage of digital photography over traditional film include: Instant review of pictures, with no wait for the film to be developed: if there’s a problem with a picture, the photographer can immediately correct the problem and take another picture.
